Sam's Club

Project Description: This proactive retail client looked to J. Scull Construction Service to build this warehouse and retail facility in a cost effective and timely manner. Under the guidance of a highly skilled construction leadership and detailed planning, the store opened for business a mere seven months from the beginning of construction.

Rushmore Crossing Retail Buildings

Project Description: Midland Atlantic Development has added more retail business space to its successful Rushmore Crossing Shopping Center in Rapid City, SD. Some of the newest additions in the commercial development include Sam's Club, Bed Bath Beyond, Verizon Wireless, Game Stop, Qdoba, and Paninis. The shopping center has continually added space through new construction projects since its opening in the winter of 2009. J Scull Construction has played a key role in getting the projects constructed because of their depth of experience in retail construction. That experience translates into price-effective buildings that are completed to owner specifications in a very timely manner.

Tractor Supply

Project Description: The owners of Tractor Supply teamed with Scull Construction Service to build this retail facility with outdoor storage. The experience of the team in developing and building in this growing area of town lent itself well to complete a successful project.

First Western Gateway

Project Description: This dramatic, upscale space is truly in a class of its own, offering style, sophistication, and beautiful views. Placed at one of the main "gateways" to the city from I-90, this Bank headquarters and premiere office space portrays the strength and character of the our community. The masonry and glass exterior is designed for longevity and maximizes the views on all four floors. A beautifully appointed common lobby entrance with coffee bar and Internet Café features a two-story atrium.

BH Community Bank

Project Description: The construction of this classic bank building has added to the curb appeal of Mt. Rushmore Road. This wood framed structure is two-stories with a full basement for meetings, trainings, and storage. Wood trusses and a glue-laminated timber roof framing add to the charm of this 22,000 square feet facility. To condition the building, a geothermal heating and cooling system was added for energy efficiency. The durable exterior is clad with EIFS (External Insulation Finishing System with stucco-type look) and concrete roof tiles, accented by stone veneer and wood structure.

Crazy Horse Visitor Center

Project Description: For this Design/Build project, J. Scull Construction worked with the owner, Ruth Ziolkowski. Her concepts and design criteria for the new structure were blended with the existing structures to create a beautiful, appealing building that is in harmony with the surrounding environment. Our team loves to work with wood, and this project features beautifully finished wood making up the floor, walls and tongue and groove ceilings. The result is a warm, welcoming ambience where visitors can enjoy the mountains, extensive art and historic collections. Two 150-seat theaters with excellent acoustics are also a part of the structure.

First Western Bank

Hill City

Project Description: The construction of this beautiful branch bank is a testament to the bank's commitment to excellence. This stick-built structure boasts brick veneer and log accents along with a prominent steep sloped roof to shed snow. Covered drive thru lanes blend in to the building and the facility is surrounded by wonderfully landscaped grounds. The building is a sturdy 5,000 square feet and fits nicely on the main drag of its wooded community.

Arc International and Kiefer Dental Buildings

Project Description: These up-scale office buildings were built concurrently in a rapid growing area of town. To maximize cost efficiency, two businesses pooled their resources and benefitted from gains to production of construction. The buildings are both wood framed and contain approximately 3500 square feet finished on the upper level and 3500 square feet unfinished lower level for future use or leasing. The exterior finishes feature a combination of aluminum panels EIFS, and rough sawn wood accents that fit perfectly in the hills setting.

Ketel Thorstensen Building

Project Description: Ketel Thorstenson is serving clients out of a new upscale office building. The accounting and financial firm serves the entire region and now has new space for their growing business. The facility is a three-story building with classic looks that fits in with historic origins of the neighborhood. Features include executive offices, conference rooms, meeting rooms, work space, kitchen, and break room. Extensive telecommunications systems and enhanced system controls are also included.

LaGrand Service Station

Project Description: This service station is a first-rate retail and refueling facility. Located just off I-90, the facility welcomes you with brilliant landscaping, featuring local plants and flowers and bronze statues of area wildlife. The site is designed to handle big vehicles comfortably with lots of space to maneuver. All 14 gas pumps have compressed air, with two of them having water and tank disposal for RVS and campers. The building is covered with brick and EIFS, and has large timber entry ways. Facilities include convenience store, wildlife museum, and a restraint space with drive-up window. The car wash on site is one of the best made and designed to capture, clean, and recycle waste water.

*EIFS External Insulation Finishing System, has a stucco-type look.

Security First Bank

Catron Branch

Project Description: This new banking facility, in a rapidly growing area of town, is a very modern and functional building. The main building offers light-weight aluminum sunscreens to shade the lobby while enhancing the external appeal. Brick siding, along with aluminum cladding, soffit and fascia make the building stand out from the surrounding structures, while maintaining a classic look and feel. The metal clad drive-up canopy provides seven lanes of service. These lanes run in two separate directions to facilitate access from each entry point on this busy corner lot. To accommodate seven drive-up lanes, a comprehensive site plan was developed to maximize the banks efficiency while maintaining the proper amount of space for vehicles to maneuver.

Security First Bank

5th Street Branch

Project Description: This is a three story, 16,000 square foot structural steel and glass structure with masonry and a membrane roof. It has a geothermal heating system with 40 wells on 1 city lot. The stairwells and elevator shaft were cast in place concrete. Other special features are a glass curtain wall with sunshades, special architectural lighting features both interior and exterior and a stainless steel exterior artwork.
